Presentation of remodeling Sanctuary Cave of Saint Ignatius works

Yesterday, Slovenian artist Marko Rupnik sj, known as the Michelangelo of the 21st century, presented at a press conference the work of art he has been working on in recent months: a set of mosaics to decorate the eight side chapels of the church of the Cave of Manresa.

It will be the first work of the artist in Catalonia that is part of the 500th anniversary of the arrival to Manresa of Sant Ignasi de Loiola, founder of the Jesuit order. The mosaics are part of the commemoration, in 2022, of the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Saint Ignatius to Manresa. The scenes are based on the four weeks of the ‘Spiritual Exercises’, written by Saint Ignatius during his stay in the capital of Bages, in 1522.

Rupnik, who is based in Rome, is currently supervising the installation of the mosaics in Manresa.

The work is expected to be completed this week and the aim is to open the Sanctuary, which is now closed by the covid, after Easter.
